Ensuring YourGrowing Success

Homemade Aeroponic systems have been in-effective for many years. Usually, there are expensive pumps to buy, there are always problems with clogging spray heads, and there is always the potential for a homemade water disaster. This brilliant system, designed for cloning, eliminates ALL of those concerns.

Success with your Aeroponic system starts with cleanliness and the right temperature. Start with clean, room temperature water in the reservoir. Adding a B1 supplement, like Thrive Alive B1, or cloning gel your preference of brand, helps to reduce cutting shock and stimulates quicker and stronger root development (If you are Cloning plants only).Plants areheld in place with some Hydroton (expanded clay pellets) in each netted pot. Most importantly, keep everything as close to 72 degrees as you can. A small submersible aquarium heater works well or if used indoors room temperature should be ok.

How it works:

Yourplants are placed in the netted pots, andplants are held in place with expanded clay pellets I recommend Hydroton. The water level is kept 1 inch below the bottoms of the netted pots, which would be only a 1/2 inch below the plants. Theplants are kept moist by an air pump; air pump is set to runconstantly.

Tiny bubbles rushing to the surface pop and throw a very fine mist of water into the air. Plants produce roots more quickly in an environment of 100% nutrients & 100% humidity in this type system. After two weeks of maintaining the water level in the reservoir, theplants should have roots and grow up to 5 times faster than in soil.

Hydroponics is not a new development. It has been around since nearly the beginning of recorded history. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon was an exercise in hydroponics and rice has been grown hydroponically for centuries. Today NASA has pioneered growing hydroponically on orbiting space stations without a single grain of soil!

Hydroponics is used in a variety of settings; indoor gardening, commercial organic growers etc. Wherever soil is unavailable, hydroponic gardening seems to appear. I have heard stories of people on offshore oilrigs growing their own tomatoes and cooks on nuclear submarines hydroponically growing vegetables to use in there crew’s meals.

Aeroponic systems are perhaps one of the most advanced of the hydroponic systems. Using a fine aerated and oxygenated mist sprayed directly on the plants root zone, the oxygen helps the roots to grow healthier.

My Aeroponic system utilizes an air stone to deliver a highly oxygenated mist of nutrient solution to the bare roots of plants. The plants are grown in net baskets; the net basket sits in a hole drilled out in the Aeroponic system lid. For a NO increase in cost, growers can also utilize expanded clay grow rock (Hydroton) in the net baskets for added plant support, and stability. Aeroponic’s is one of the fastest plant cultivation methods to grow vegetables, herbs, flowers and houseplants due to the high level of dissolved oxygen to the root zone. Plants will achieve an increase in water and nutrient uptake over conventional soil gardening methods. Soil tends to bind up crucial minerals and therefore plants tend to expend a lot of energy pulling the minerals away from the positive ions such as clay in the soil. With Aeroponic’s the action exchange is neutral for optimum nutrient uptake and accelerated plant growth.

For indoor hydro gardening applications I recommend a metal halide or high-pressure sodium lighting system depending on plant variety, stage of growth and plant cultivation methods, ranging from 100-400 watts.
